Client: Varga Lounge Nightclub (1999)
Project Partner: Pixelstorm
Project: www.vargalounge.com.au (no longer live)
Challenge: Create a “Funky and Sexy” online experience to engage 20-30 year old professionals to promote the nightclub.
Solution: The club was named after Varga, who was a pin-up illustrator for Esquire and Playboy magazines during the 40’s, 50’s and 60s. We came up with the idea of using a “retro” television to use as a frame, with the knob controlling the site navigation.
To give the audience a challenge, as you would with a video game appealing to an educated market, we did not use an obvious navigation. Following considerable research we could not locate an image that looked old but stylish enough to work in the present so we designed the TV using inspiration from past styles.
To create a more “sexy” feel we used deep reds, sweeping curves and based the knob design on a nipple. Loud and fast animation was used to portray the fun and energy of the club.
Results: The fact that we are still able to show a website made in 1999 on our folio, makes us proud we made a site that can stand the test of time, trends and style.
